Quebec Skilled Workers

This immigration program is for persons able to become economically established in Canada and who wish to settle in the province of Quebec as Canadian Permanent residents.

In order to do that, applicants must first be accepted by Quebec, by being nominated in a Certificate of Selection. Under the Canada-Quebec Accord on Immigration, Quebec establishes its own immigration requirements and selects immigrants who will adapt well to living in Quebec.

After you have been selected by Quebec, you have to make a separate application for permanent residence. Permanent residence is granted only if the applicant passes successfully the medical examinations and security and criminal checks.

Proving that you have enough money to support yourself and your family after you arrive in Canada is also a requirement.

General Requirements

The immigration process for Quebec differs from the Federal one. There is a special selection grid and special requirements to be met.

To be selected by Quebec as a skilled worker, you must have:

  • hold at least one Secondary School Diploma or a Diploma of Vocational Studies
  • acquired training and occupational skills that will facilitate your insertion into the Quebec job market
  • have adequate knowledge of French. We strongly recommend that you pay attention to this factor, as your level of French is very important for your immigration process, as well as for your integration in Quebec.

When assessing your application, the officer will take into consideration the following factors:

  • training
  • work experience
  • age
  • knowledge of French and English
  • stays in Quebec and family relationship with a Canadian citizen or a permanent Quebec resident
