Study in Canada

Canada is a great place to study and live, as Canada offers great opportunities for students who wish to obtain an amazing experience and the best knowledge in a wide range of fields.

Thousands and thousands of students study in Canada every year and even more come to Canada to learn English or French. Foreign students bring a rich culture, their knowledge and skills are welcome in Canadian institutions.

If you wish to study in Canada, you need to obtain a study permit first. In order to do that, you must demonstrate that you:

  • Have obtained a letter of acceptance from the educational institution;
  • satisfy medical and security requirements;
  • can support yourself and any accompanying family members during the period of study and pay transportation costs;
  • have sufficient funds to pay tuition fees;
  • will leave Canada at the end of the period authorized for your stay.

Usually it takes 3 to 5 months to process an application to study in Canada.

Please note that minor children (except for those accompanying parents who are in Canada as visitors), and dependents of foreign nationals who are in Canada on diplomatic, consular, official or certain other duties for the United Nations do not require a study permit.

If you intend to work during the period of studies, you have to apply for a work permit. However, if you perform work on-campus, you do not need an authorization.

Holding a study permit (authorization to study in Canada) does not exempt you from the need to obtain a temporary resident visa (authorization to travel to Canada and ask permission to get in), unless you come from a Visa Exempt Country.
